Harworth Estates realises the benefit of identifying and responsibly exploiting mineral reserves on our land holdings. We understand the important role the mineral product industry has in supplying minerals to the construction industry. The mineral industry supports the development of new houses, schools, hospitals, and infrastructure and for cleansing of emissions from coal fired power stations. Typically, each year nearly four tonnes of aggregates are needed per head of the population in the UK.
In collaboration with mineral product development partners such as Tarmac, Harworth Estates undertakes an active role in the management of our quarries and mineral developments.
We currently manage one operational facility at Rufford Quarry, Nottinghamshire for sand extraction that produces approximately 50,000 tonnes per annum for use in mortars and asphalt. Tarmac, our product development partner, operates a sand extraction operation from land owned by the company at Meriden Quarry, which is a sand and gravel operation.
We’re interested in establishing new mineral development opportunities within our portfolio, including the development of new, sustainable methods of working. Considering the vast and diverse nature of the portfolio, it offers the potential for a varied mix of mineral types and qualities.
In addition to this, Harworth Estates is committed to developing schemes of restoration that bring sites back to a positive community use whilst offering a range of biodiversity benefits, where possible.
