Sustainability

We’re active in all sectors of the property market working sustainably, considering best practice and looking to the future, from the restoration of a former mine through to investment in renewable technologies

Sustainability plays a key part in land and planning of the Harworth Estates business model. Everything we do seeks to ensure that we are working sustainably, from the restoration of our sites through to investment in renewable technologies.

As part of the restoration and reclamation process Harworth Estates recycles and recovers secondary aggregates from its disused colliery sites for use in the construction industry. This relieves the pressure placed upon natural aggregate recovery. We also identify and recover secondary coal fines from our redundant, disused colliery sites.

Following reclamation, many of the sites are restored for beneficial environmental and/or leisure uses. Successful restoration can result in enhancements in biodiversity and improvements in flora and fauna. Restoration also results in the creation of new habitats.
